Our laboratory is working on the development of functional materials using "composite plating." Plating is an essential technology for all electronic and semiconductor devices, including personal computers, mobile phones, and smartphones. Our laboratory is fabricating materials such as "metal/CNT composite films" using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and exploring their application to display materials, wear-resistant materials, thermal and electrical conductive materials, and battery materials (current collector substrates). We are also working on creating roughened substrates for metal-resin bonding with a focus on multi-materialization, which are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through the lightweighting of automobiles.
Recently, we have also been conducting research on electrochemical devices through the development of metal electrodeposition from aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes (including room-temperature molten salts), intercalation reactions of polyvalent ions (such as graphite intercalation compounds), and proton batteries (active material and electrolyte) and Mg secondary batteries (artificial SEI).
Keywords: composite plating, electrodeposition, intercalation (graphite intercalation compounds), ionic liquids, Mg/Ca/proton secondary batteries, harmful ion removal
